132/22kV SUBSTATION - SYD-03
ClientINJ Construction ConsultingCommencedMarch 2024CompletedStage 1: Completed December 2024 | Stage 2: Due for completion April 2025Share
Stage 1 Scope

The works for Stage 1 involved the installation of HD conduits, ranging from 63mm to 200mm, within the Data Centre site. These conduits connected the HV and LV systems between the GIS and the substation. The installation of conduits facilitated the construction of the substation, including the setup of 3 x 132kV feeders.

Total Length
  • 500m x 3 [Tri-form 200mm ducts]
  • Several additional 100m sections within the substation
Stage 2 Scope

Stage 2 includes the installation of 1000m x 2 [Tri-form 200mm ducts] along a public roadway, linking up with HDD bores. It also involves the installation of:

  • 4 x CAT holes
  • Provision of traffic control for all works
  • Exportation of excavated material
  • Importation of backfill material
Key Challenges

The key challenges included:

  • Substation construction, requiring a substantial number of conduits to be installed in a limited space. Road and Rail’s in-house survey team helped address these challenges.
  • Logistical coordination, particularly with the import of 10,000 tons of TR stabilised sand using Road and Rail’s own trucks.
  • Managing interfaces with other contractors, such as retaining wall construction occurring concurrently with our installation.
  • Export and import of materials, where all excavated material for Stage 2 was handled by Road and Rail’s own fleet of trucks.
  • Traffic management, which was managed by Road and Rail’s in-house traffic control resources.
  • Conduit requirements, where all conduits had to be bilateral and chamfered internally.
Result

The works were completed on time without any safety breaches. Quality checks, including conduit proofing, were successfully carried out. Full as-built documentation was completed by Road and Rail’s in-house survey team.
