Scope:
This project involved the relocation of potable water mains ranging from 100mm to 450mm, constructed from ductile iron and steel concrete-lined pipes. It also included multiple house connections, with 14 new connections to the existing main. The majority of the water mains were installed during 56-hour shutdown weekends, and were concrete-encased. The installation depths ranged from 1 meter to 3.5 meters in water-charged and occasionally contaminated ground conditions.

Total Length: 1.5 kilometers

Key Challenges:
Key challenges included working in confined corridors, managing 56-hour shutdowns, navigating a constantly evolving site with multiple traffic switches, and excavating depths of up to 4 meters in water-charged and contaminated ground. Additional complexities involved working near leachate barriers, managing traffic, and performing complex connections to aging existing mains within tight time constraints.

Result:
Road and Rail Excavations successfully completed all scope and packages on time and within budget, maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety throughout the project. Through innovative solutions, we reduced the number of required 56-hour shutdowns from nine to seven, enhancing our relationship with CGUJV, Transport, and the local community.
