Scope:
The scope of this project includes multiple utility installation packages involving watermain installations, Jemena steel and PE gas mains relocations, stormwater pipe and pit installations, comms and ITS conduit installations and relocating and installing of Ausgrid electrical assets. Coordination with relevant authorities and asset owners are key components of these scope of works on the project. Our works also entail the construction of temporary access roads, major bulk earthworks and deep excavations, as well as installation of traffic compliant barriers, and fencing.

Total Length: 40 meters

Key Challenges:
Key challenges encountered during this project included:

· Working within tight corridors and behind barriers with limited access.

· Managing a constantly evolving site with multiple traffic switches.

· Excavating up to depths of 3.5 meters in challenging conditions, including dealing with contaminated materials and hard rock.

· Demolition of a 10m high rock cliff face directly adjacent to the freeway live traffic lanes for the installation of a new traffic off ramp.

· Navigating sensitive areas, which required adhering to very specific haulage routes for trucks.

· Coordinating with the public and other stakeholders to minimize disruption.

· Removing asbestos materials and asbestos contaminated soils.

One important lesson learned was the need for detailed planning and protective measures to maintain access routes while installing services in tight areas, ensuring the safety of previously installed services.

Result:
Road and Rail Excavations successfully delivered all aspects of the scope within the required timeframes and budget, without compromising quality or safety. Building on our strong reputation from previous projects, Road and Rail Excavations has been contracted for several 56-hour shutdowns, long weekend shutdowns, including works completed during the Easter and Christmas periods over the past two years. Following the establishment of a strong working relationship with the client, we now have 10 crews on-site, operating across both day and night shifts.
